Dance like a girl: B-Girl Terra

I don't post about cute cats.  But dance videos?  Yes.  I  get goosebumps when I see videos like these.  The best ones always are of children with boundless energy of children.  I couldn't help notice her little shoelaces came undone before the camera cut to her putting on her elbow guards and hat :)

Today at Secret Sunrise, I jumped around with a 6 year old, and she didn't stop dancings.  She wasn't not tired.   No heavy breathing, fatigue, or feeling like it's time to stop.  Me on the other hand was wondering hwo long I could keep up with her.  I had to stop. She kept on going.

I noticed the same from B Girl Terra.  No deep breathing, just a pure clear vessel of movement, focus, agility and skill.  She doesn't stop.

Can't wait to see what more she shares with the world.

Slam Poetry Videos by Holly McNish - Food, Language, Love, Womanhood, Human Rights.

"Kids can't even read the ingredients of their meal time"

Powerful stance on food rights. Whole Food Nutrition.

"I'm happy I'm learning Spanish." Activate the left and right brain. Ride the language love train.

"So I whispered and tiptoed with nervous discretion. But after 6 months of her life sat sitting on lids, Sipping on milk, nostrils sniffing on piss, Trying not to bang her head on toilet roll dispensers, I wonder if these public loo feeds offend her, 'Cause I'm getting tired of discretion and being polite."

Why not to be embarrassed when a mother feeds her child - from her breast.

Holly McNish's honest words and delivery on potent topics of food, language, love, womanhood, human rights.

"You have to have style." -Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele

"I like to play,"  confesses Stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele.  In this clip she explains her hate for runway and trends but her love for tracksuits.

Some style wisdom:  "Chic is not money. You have to have style."

 Let's run with that!  X

Be Kind to the Earth and Buy #Vintage

That's what we thought.  Since we were little girls - - we raided our sister's closests, bought second hand clothes from Evanston's ESCAA sales, created our own style, and now continue to buy vintage clothing that ends up lasting forever (which means our closet space has grown!)

But now and again, you bring friends and resources together and start a pop-up shop.   And this is what we did.  For the month of July . . . Cape Town's finest pizza meets the best of 60s and 70s vintage clothing.

"Grandma's clothes look incredible" MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - THRIFT SHOP FEAT. WANZ (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - YouTube

My friend Mary sent me this link because I'm one of the many girls who has fly dookie brown leather jackets and 99 cent priceless Tshirt from thrift shops around the world.   Love this flavour!  Now when I go to clothes swaps, I end up holding onto the fine cotton threads I've had since 5th grade, and getting rid of the new shit... may just have to do a compilation remix of my thrift journeys from Honduras to Cape Town with Macklemore.  And I am definitely going to use this as inspiration for the next music video I work on :)

Bahamadia-Legend MC

How come it took so long for me to come across the cunning crisp wordpoetress!?  This is what happens when you share music on a Sunday afternoon-you get the missing links to your music library.

I'm inspired by her rhythmic flow and the platforms from which she expresses her wordplay. Manic Xsplosive Spontaneity.  Well explained, pure art form in lyrical soulfood.

Her track, CommonWealth (Cheap Chicks) had me laughing, taking me back to my teenage years inside TJ Maxx.

Restless City, a film with rich visual script

Was like watching visual magic realism. Many shots used reflections upon reflections, weaving an emotional tale that engaged intimately with the two main characters, Djbril and Trini.  My favorite part about this film besides the incredible costumes, were each frame allowed your eye to digest into the detail, opening your senses to the story unfolding before you.  It all made sense when director, Andrew Dosunmu,     explained he came from a photography background.  This is a beautifully styled film that displays how essential cinematography serves as a visual script.
Check out more on the film here: http://www.restlesscityfilm.com/#stills
or see it Friday, July 29th at 10pm, Musgrave Centre, at the Durban International Film Festival.

Refashioning Manoula's Dress

I am refashioning my mom's dress for the love revolution festival wedding we are soon to be planning for next year.  I am going to see the dress soon and wear it with such pleasure- restructuring it with Ronel's help. Here is a picture of the detail, the hand beaded parts my mom did for her wedding in 1969.  Today is my parent's anniversary.  It was a Priscilla gown, she explains to me.  Whatever it is, I will love to use it's vintage allure. I can't wait to see how it evolves into a three-in-one gown of beautiful feminine love and powah.

It's Recess Time at the MOMA PS1, Long Island City, New York City

PS1 outside: an urban beach and inside out playpen

William Kentridge's Zuma's shower head in the halls of PS1
Last summer, My friend Claire took me to PS1, Long Island City. It was a rocking party and took you back to the feeling of being at school recess, but this time with beer tents, art and DJ's.
This pool installation fits the perfect vibe for my PS1 'student' school activities. Swim class without the swimming costume.
In Cape Town, the Design Indaba is happening and I can't wait to see all the innovative design projects that are being shared with the public for the first time! I didn't get the chance to dip into Erlich's pool but I love the interactivity it welcomes to the creative playground.
